Stud Welding Associates
Since its founding in 1982, Stud Welding Associates (SWA) has grown into one of the world’s leading manufacturers and distributors of stud welding fasteners and equipment. We serve a wide range of global markets, including construction, industrial, nuclear and military.
You’ll find our fasteners in critical applications in city skylines around the globe, from the skyscrapers of Manhattan in New York City to the tallest building in the world, the 1483-foot tall Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 2011, our fasteners and custom welding equipment will be used to construct a massive and dramatic suspension bridge in the Andes Mountains, part of the Pan American Highway Bridge Project through Central America.
Our fastener product lines run deep and wide, and include concrete anchors, externally threaded fasteners, shear connectors, inserts, pipe & cable hangers, weld studs, bosses, ports and much more.
Our Pro Weld stud welding equipment line is backed by industry-leading warranty coverage, friendly and easy-to-reach expert technical service, and a fully-equipped repair facility. For decades, Pro Weld stud welding equipment has provided the tried-and-true performance in a full product line, including both drawn arc and capacitive discharge equipment. Our newest drawn arc welder, the Arc-1250i (photo) features state-of-the-art inverter technology and delivers powerful, smooth and precise control for drawn arc, gas arc and short-cycle processes, for up to 5/8-in. diameter fasteners.
Our fastener products comply with all required industry standards, such as American Welding Society ANSI/AWS D1 Welding Codes, British Standards 5950 and 5400 and Canadian Welding Bureau CSA W59, to name just a few. Our standard stud products are manufactured from ASTM A-108 or ASTM A-496 mild steel or 18/8 stainless steel grades. Other material grades are available upon request.
Strict adherence to our quality control procedures registered to ISO 9001-2000 standards ensures that our customers receive consistently high quality products. Furthermore, Stud Welding Associates maintains test reports on file which provide complete traceability of mill material, and also provides its customers with certification of each heat number purchased.
Unlike some others, we maintain a full range of weld studs, stud welding systems, accessories and rental equipment in stock at our Elyria, Ohio, manufacturing facility, as well as company warehouses across the United States.

GAWDA Challenges Dept. of Transportation
GAWDA and 29 other trade associations jointly filed a petition for rulemaking with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The petition seeks to establish the fitness criteria for evaluating special permits and approvals for shippers and carriers of hazardous materials through notice and comment rulemaking. To date, DOT has taken the position that a rulemaking is not required by law, which means that the regulated industry has no input into the criteria to be used. GAWDA and the other petitioners believe that a notice and comment rulemaking is required by the Administrative Procedure Act. View the petition.

| William Stadelman enjoys his in-home welding shop, made possible with the support of Haun Welding Supply. |
Haun Makes Welder’s Wish Come True (Syracuse, NY) • When the Make-A-Wish Foundation came to Broome-Tioga BOCES Welding Instructor John Shear to help locate a sponsor for welding student William Stadelman’s wish, Shear knew exactly who to ask. After Stadelman, who suffers from brain cancer, became too ill to attend welding classes, Haun Welding Supply took charge of the project and helped transform the student’s garage into a personal welding shop over the course of 8 months. Haun Outside Sales Rep John Wilmarth worked with Miller Electric and other supplier partners to secure more than $15,000 worth of welding equipment and accessories. Says Wilmarth, “It was an unusual wish, and I was glad that we could help out.”
Overheard on Executive Dialogue:

“I have to be honest with you all and ask where all the welding jobs are. I was certified in over 12 different welding processes and even with that I have been out of work in the steel industry for 2 years. All the articles about the welder shortage are aggravating because I want to be doing my craft and can’t secure work in my chosen career field. Instead I’m running machines in a factory making plastic bottles.”
