Transition Rumors Dispelled

In a letter dated March 5, GAWDA President Jenny McCall addressed the misinformation and rumors surrounding GAWDA’s cancellation of its contract with Fernley & Fernley, including payment of the management fee, meeting revenues, headquarters staff and member benefits. You can read the letter here. President McCall and Executive Director Kent Van Amburg will address the transition in detail at the Spring Management Conference.

Convention Registration Special

Register 2 full delegates for GAWDA's Spring Management Conference (SMC) and receive a complimentary third full delegate registration. Manufacturing Expands for Seventh Month

U.S. manufacturing expanded for the seventh consecutive month in February, an indicator that factories are leading the recovery, according to the Institute for Supply Management. Factories boosted production to restock depleted inventories and invested in new equipment last year as global demand increased following the worst recession in 7 decades. Also, in January, manufacturing employment increased 11,000, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

John W. Marsland

New Senior Vice President at Air Products (Lehigh, PA)Air Products named John W. Marsland senior vice president, supply chain, and member of the company's Corporate Executive Committee. Marsland now has overall responsibility for Air Products' global engineering, global operations, energy and materials, and continuous improvement organizations. Marsland joined Air Products in 2002 and most recently served as vice president and general manager of global liquid bulk, generated gases and helium.

 

Linde to Consolidate Customer Services (Murray Hill, NJ)The Electronics and Specialty Gases Business of Linde North America consolidated its customer service operations at Linde’s facility in Stewartsville, NJ. The consolidation is part of the integration of Spectra Gases Inc., which Linde purchased in 2006. Staff at the new facility will manage domestic and international order processing and logistics support for Linde‘s Electronics and Specialty Gases business. Previously, those functions were handled at multiple facilities in NJ and MA. The facility also will  serve as the headquarters for Linde’s U.S. Electronics and Specialty Gases business.

AWI/Arkansas Welding Supply Hires Sales Manager (Hot Springs, AR)AWI/Arkansas Welding Supply hired Stuart Rogers as its new sales manager. “Stuart  brings to our sales staff a deep background in welding supply sales and process management,” says President Tom Butler.

Advanced Gas & Welding Moves (Wickliffe, OH)Advanced Gas & Welding moved its headquarters to a new location at 30400 Lakeland Blvd. in Wickliffe, OH. The move allows the company to consolidate its welding, warehouse and gas filling operations under one roof. Previously, the company was divided between 2 locations, a 6,000 sq. ft. facility in Eastlake, OH, and an 8,000 sq. ft. facility in Middlefield, OH. The new facility is 30,000 sq. ft.

Welding Material Sales and Direct Wire & Cable Appoint Outside Sales Rep (Geneva, IL)Welding Material Sales and Direct Wire & Cable hired Dismas DiCicco for the outside sales team. DiCicco will operate from the companies’ new Houston warehouse. His sales territory includes Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama.

Southeastern Regional Meeting

Southeastern Regional Meeting Update
GAWDA’s Southeastern Regional Meeting, hosted by CryoVation, drew more than 50 attendees. Lloyd Robinson, president of Awisco and president-elect of GAWDA, opened the meeting with updates on the organization’s activities and benefits. He noted that GAWDA will unveil a new Web site at its Spring Management Conference in Chicago, that it no longer charges members to use GAWDA University Online and that Airgas, Inc. had renewed its membership. Christopher Guest, a distributor sales manager at Air Liquide who scaled Mt. Everest last spring, took attendees on a visual tour up the world’s highest mountain and stressed the critical, life-saving role oxygen plays in the climb. Jim Glessner, president of TrackAbout, discussed a “step” approach to business growth and how it helped his company double in size last year. Afterward, attendees participated in a golf skills challenge, played 18 holes and capped the day with a reception.

GAWDA Gives Back—WINGS UpdateAt the 2009 Annual Convention in San Antonio, TX, GAWDA members donated $161,985 to WINGS, a local group that helps uninsured women with breast cancer. WINGS Executive Director Terri Bronocco Jones has provided an update regarding how our donation is helping women battling cancer. You can read Jones’ letter here.
